  • The JOB PAL is designed light weight so it can be used in the shop or easily moved to the job site without use of a crane or forklift. Total machine weight (without the tools) is 350lbs. Lift and carry on the left end (motor end) is 210lbs and the right end is 140lbs.

JOB PAL Features and Materials

  • All welded body construction with few bolt ons. The long sections of the machine are 18 Ga. stainless steel type 302, which eliminates paint wear by the board and future rust. Machine ends are painted 16 Ga. C.R. Steel.

  • The cutting bed is set at 31 1/2" working height. Below the bed is an open tool tray to carry the extra tooling. The inside is covered with carpeting to protect the blades.

  • On the top of the roll cover on the left side of machine for operator convenience is a set-up plate showing the tool arrangements for cutting one, two, and four piece ducts.

  • Machine is supported on 3/4" steel pipe legs. The left end has two heavy 8" wheels to roll machine thru doorways at job sites. By removing the angle braces on the legs lets them fold outward under the machine for carrying or hauling to the job.

  • Gear motor is a special built by US Motor Co. The motor is 3/4 H.P. mounted on a #48 frame gearhead and can develop up to 570lbs of pull when loaded. Motor is controlled by a foot switch and the wiring includes forward and reverse switch. All electrics are 115V/1 phase.

Drive Chain and motor arrangement is very compact.

  • Drive Rolls are 16 Ga. 4" round electrical welded tubing with 3/4" shafts and bearing. Shafts on sprocket and drive end are case-hardened to help prevent bending or breaking.

  • Two upper rolls are sanded set with paint and resins and bites into the fiberglass to pull it thru the machine. Three lower rolls are covered with a thin coating of rubber to protect outer kraft skim foil and provide extra traction to help move board thru machine.

  • Beneath the cutting roll is a stabilizer wheel lightly touching the roll. This helps prevent the roll from bowing when board is passing thru machine.

  • The upper and lower parts of machine body are spaced to cut 1', 1 1/2" or 2" board. On a "fixed end" machine, the spacing is done by using a washer the height of the required board tightness and bolted together. To change board thickness requires the loosening of the motor and chain, removing the four corner bolts and swapping the washers and redoing the chain and motor. The time required for the change over is 20 minutes to 30 minutes. This machine is for operators who normally cut one thickness but want the capacity for later change. This machine is finished at a lower price. For operators that may cut both thickness in a short time span, an "adjustable end" unit is made.

After loosening the motor and chain, each corner is moved either up or down with a furnished wrench. The time required for this change is approximately 15 minutes. The "adjustable end" unit is available at a slightly higher cost.

NOTE: A 1 1/2" tool is 1/2" higher than a 1" tool so moving the machine up 1/2" will let the tool fit behind the cutting roll but the distance between the feed rolls may not have the "squeeze" needed to move the board thru the machine. Either size change may require the cutting roll moved up or down, which is set in slotted holes, to keep the needed feed roll spacing which can add "change over" time.

STANDARD MACHINE TOOLS

  • The tools are held in place clamped on two angle flanges on each side of the upper roll covers. This method replaces the heavy twin tool bar to reduce machine weight.

  • The cutting blades are heat treated for wearing hardness and plated with bright zinc. Blade life is reported by operators to be at approximately 150,000 sq.ft. or more.
